About the Band
White Spot Pipe Band is a youth pipe band and Highland dance organisation based in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. The band was established in 1956 as the Optimist Junior Pipe Band, before being renamed White Spot Pipe Band in 1963 when White Spot Restaurants, through founder Nat Bailey, became its sponsor.
It is one of the longest-running youth pipe band programmes in the Pacific Northwest, teaching piping, drumming, and Highland dancing to young members from around age eight upwards. The band competes in **Grade 4** under the British Columbia Pipers’ Association and has won regional Grade 4 aggregate titles several times, including in 2019.
Over the decades, White Spot has helped train thousands of young musicians and dancers, many of whom have gone on to adult pipe bands. Its mix of youth development, competition, community performances, and its distinctive restaurant sponsorship makes it one of the more recognisable Canadian youth pipe band stories.
