About the Band

Alyth & District Pipe Band is a community pipe band from Alyth in Perthshire, Scotland. The modern band was founded in 2006 and is registered as a Scottish charity, with OSCR listing Alyth & District Pipe Band as charity SC037350 from 12 June 2006.

The band continues an older local piping tradition in Alyth. Its own public profile notes that Alyth Youth Pipe Band was formed in 1936 under the chieftainship of Scoutmaster James Kirkpatrick of Millhaugh, giving the town a much deeper pipe band connection than the modern charity date alone suggests.

Today, Alyth & District Pipe Band plays at local events, community occasions and public performances around Alyth and Perthshire. Recent local coverage describes the band as a focal point of the town’s social and cultural life, active at major events and supported by local musicians and volunteers.

It is not one of the headline-grabbing Grade 1 machines, but that is not really the point. Bands like Alyth keep the pipes and drums rooted in the town: teaching, turning out, keeping tradition alive, and giving the place its own soundtrack.
