About the Band
Chattanooga Pipe Band, also known as City of Chattanooga Pipe Band, is a non-profit pipe band based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, serving southeast Tennessee, north Georgia and northeast Alabama. The band was formed under Pipe Major Russ Spaulding with a small group of local pipers and drummers who had previously been travelling to other cities just to play in a pipe band. Its own website gives 1998 as the formation year, while other historical summaries place the first formal meeting at Christ Church Episcopal on 4 November 1999.
The band was created to give Chattanooga its own Scottish pipe band presence, supporting local events, parades, ceremonies and regional Highland games. It is organised as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, with a role that blends public performance, education and preservation of traditional pipe band music.
In recent years, Chattanooga Pipe Band has remained active in the Scenic City’s cultural life, marking its 25th anniversary in 2024 with public celebrations and performances.
