About the Band
Dominion Pipe Band is a Winnipeg, Manitoba pipe band and is currently described publicly as Manitoba’s premier competitive Grade 2 pipe band. The band is active on the Manitoba and wider Canadian competition scene, with recent performances at events such as the Manitoba Scottish Festival.
The name can cause a wee bit of confusion, because “Dominion Pipe Band” also appears historically in New Zealand as part of the old Dominion Pipe Band Contest/Championships, rather than as a single band name. New Zealand’s first Dominion Pipe Band Contest was held in Christchurch during the 1906–07 International Exhibition, with Dunedin Highland, Ashburton and Waimate taking part.
The Winnipeg Dominion Pipe Band has a modern competition profile rather than a long publicly documented institutional history. In 2026, it was reported as the top winner at the Manitoba Scottish Festival, taking straight firsts in both Grade 2 events. It also appears in Winnipeg’s Scottish cultural calendar alongside other Manitoba bands, reflecting its place in the local piping community.
