About the Band

Foothills Caledonia Youth Pipe Band is a youth pipe band based in Calgary, Alberta, and describes itself as Southern Alberta’s premier youth pipe band. It teaches and mentors young pipers and drummers, generally from ages 7 to 18, giving learners a route into performance, competition, teamwork and the wider Canadian pipe band scene.

The band’s roots go back to 1972, when it was originally formed as the Ogden Legion Pipe Band, sponsored by Royal Canadian Legion Ogden Branch No. 154 in southeast Calgary. Even after the Ogden Branch closed, the band kept the Ogden Legion name for many years in recognition of that heritage. It later became Foothills Caledonia Youth Pipe Band, carrying forward the same history under a new identity.

Many of the band’s instructors are former members, helping keep the teaching tradition alive across generations. The organisation also benefits from a strong parent association, giving young players support beyond weekly practices and contests.
