About the Band
Helensburgh Clan Colquhoun Pipe Band is a community pipe band from Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute. The band is usually dated to 1913, making it one of Scotland’s long-established civilian pipe bands. Recent public material describes it as having kept tradition alive for more than 100 years, while continuing to bring through new generations of pipers and drummers.
The band’s name reflects Helensburgh’s strong connection with Clan Colquhoun. The town itself was developed by Sir James Colquhoun of Luss, who bought the land in 1752 and named Helensburgh after his wife Helen.
Today, Helensburgh Clan Colquhoun Pipe Band performs at local events, Highland games and community occasions. It has also competed in the RSPBA scene, with recent recruitment material noting the band’s intention to compete in Grade 4B, alongside local competitions, major championships and community performances.
