About the Band

Keith Highlanders Pipe Band is a Seattle-based pipe band from Washington State, USA. It was formed in 1952 and has long served the Greater Seattle community through performances, teaching and competition. The band has a rare distinction outside Scotland: it is the official pipe band of Clan Keith, following a relationship with the Clan Keith chiefs that grew from its early permission to wear Keith tartan and badge.

The band’s international story is unusually strong for a North American community band. In 1980, a small group made its first trip to Scotland, where the 12th Earl of Kintore formally named it the official band of Clan Keith. Later Scotland trips included appearances at the World Pipe Band Championships in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2015.

The 2002 tour marked both the band’s 50th anniversary and the 1000th anniversary of Clan Keith, with performances around north-east Scotland and an 11th-place finish out of 40 at the Worlds. In 2004, the band returned and placed 6th at the Worlds, with two first-place piping scores.
