About the Band

Kilsyth Thistle Pipe Band is a community pipe band from Kilsyth, North Lanarkshire, and was established in 1891. The band describes itself as one of the oldest civilian pipe bands in continuous existence, serving Kilsyth, Kirkintilloch and the surrounding area for well over a century. (facebook.com)

The band’s purpose has always been rooted in local piping and drumming: teaching players, supporting community events, and competing in traditional pipe band contests. Public profiles describe Kilsyth Thistle as a Grade 4 competing band, open to anyone interested in learning pipes, side drum, tenor or bass drum. (neildrover.com)

Recent material lists the band as competing in Grade 4A/4B, with practices at its band hall on Deacons Road and tuition available for learners before full band practice. The band has also been seen competing in Grade 4B under Pipe Major Sam Peoples, wearing Royal Stewart tartan.
