About the Band
Lindisfarne College Pipe Band is the school pipe band of Lindisfarne College in Hastings, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. The college itself was established in 1953, and the Royal New Zealand Pipe Bands’ Association notes that Lindisfarne has had a pipe band since its inception in 1955. The Pipes and Drums are described as an integral part of the school’s Arts Programme, with boys taught piping and drumming within the college by music tutors.
The band reflects the school’s Scottish and Presbyterian heritage. Lindisfarne maintains a strong Celtic identity through traditions such as its pipe band, annual Burns supper, Easter Highland Games, tartan uniform elements and Scottish-themed school culture.
Today, Lindisfarne College Pipe Band remains active in school life and the wider Hawke’s Bay community. The school describes Pipes and Drums as one of its strongest traditions and a vital part of the college calendar, while recent public posts show the band performing at events such as the Hastings Blossom Parade and local pipe band contests.
