About the Band

Loch Norman Pipe Band is based in the Charlotte, North Carolina area and was founded in 1996 by Pipe Major Ed Krintz and his wife Timmy Hord. The band was created to fill the gap left after the disbanding of the Charlotte Caledonian Pipe Band in 1990, and was named with permission from the Catawba Valley Scottish Society.

The band serves as the host pipe band for the Rural Hill Scottish Festival and Loch Norman Highland Games, held each April at Rural Hill Farms. It is active as both a competition and performance band, playing at Highland games across the Southeast as well as graduations, parades, festivals, opening ceremonies and private events.

Today, Loch Norman is listed as a Grade IV and Grade V band, with its main competition band in Grade IV. It is under the direction of Pipe Major Jay Close and Drum Sergeant Allison Dean, and proudly wears Davidson tartan.
