About the Band

Queensland Irish Association Pipe Band is based in Brisbane and is described by the band as one of the oldest pipe bands in Queensland and the oldest Irish pipe band in Australia. Its roots go back to before the turn of the twentieth century, although it has existed under different names and associations over the years.

The band promotes Irish and wider Celtic culture through piping and drumming, playing a mix of Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Breton, Asturian and Australian music, with some modern pieces added for crowd appeal. It is strongly community focused and performs at events such as Brisbane’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations, ANZAC Day, the Queensland Irish Festival and the Australian Celtic Festival at Glen Innes.

QIAPB wears Ancient Urquhart tartan as part of its distinctive green uniform and offers lessons for aspiring pipers and drummers, helping bring new players into the band. Its current officers include Pipe Major Bruce Grice and Drum Sergeant Simon Harris.
