About the Band
Saskatoon Police Pipes & Drums is a volunteer police pipe band from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. It was formed in 1961 by serving police officer Pipe Major Hugh Fraser Sr., who later retired as Deputy Chief of Operations. The band was created to represent the Saskatoon Police Service and the city at public events, ceremonies and community occasions.
Over the years, the band has appeared regionally and nationally, supporting police ceremonies, civic events, parades, memorials and cultural gatherings. Like many Canadian police pipe bands, it blends ceremonial duty with community music, giving Saskatoon a visible tartan presence without needing to deploy a full brass section and a small weather system.
In 2026, the band celebrated its 65th anniversary, marking a long run from its police-service beginnings to a largely community-based organisation that still carries the Saskatoon Police name and tradition.
