About the Band

Waimatuku Southern Scenic Highland Pipe Band is based in Waimatuku, a rural community about 24 km west of Invercargill on New Zealand’s Southern Scenic Route. The band was formed in 1934 by local people with a shared interest in pipe band music.

The band practises at Waimatuku Hall and has remained strongly community focused, supporting events across Southland including ANZAC Day parades, Christmas and festival parades, A&P shows, weddings, funerals and charity events. It wears the McPherson tartan and includes members ranging from secondary school pupils to players with decades of experience.

Today, Waimatuku Southern Scenic Highland Pipe Band continues to represent Southland through public performance, teaching and competition, and is listed within the Royal New Zealand Pipe Bands’ Association Southland Centre.
