About the Band

Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools Pipe Band is based in Edinburgh and represents the ESMS family of schools, including Stewart’s Melville College and The Mary Erskine School. The schools have a long heritage, with Mary Erskine’s original school foundation dating back to 1694.

The pipe band forms part of the schools’ wider music and co-curricular programme, giving pupils the chance to learn Highland piping and drumming, perform at school and public events, and compete in the Scottish school pipe band scene. The band has been noted as an annual fixture at the Edinburgh Riding of the Marches, performing on the Royal Mile and representing the school in civic celebrations.

In competition, Erskine Stewart’s Melville has appeared in school and RSPBA events, including Novice Juvenile grades. Today, the band continues to develop young pipers and drummers through tuition, performance and competition, helping maintain a strong pipe band tradition within the Edinburgh schools community.
