About the Band
Towie & District Pipe Band is based in Towie, in the Strathdon area of Aberdeenshire. The band was formed in the 1960s, with local references crediting Captain John Deuchar BEM with setting it up in 1964. It has long served the surrounding rural community, performing at Highland games, parades, local events and civic occasions across the north-east of Scotland.
The band wears Graham of Menteith Muted tartan and has competed under the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association, including in Grade 4B. Its history includes strong competition moments, with references to success in drumming and appearances at major and local championships.
Today, Towie & District continues as an active community and competition pipe band, supporting piping and drumming in Aberdeenshire while maintaining a proud local identity.
