About the Band
Celtic Cross Pipes and Drums is based in Peoria, Illinois, USA. The band was founded in 1963 by Pipe Major Thomas W. D. Livingstone Sr., a native of Dunblane, Scotland, who had started piping at the age of eight. It began as The Peoria Pipe Band, with Livingstone teaching one piper and three students.
Livingstone became known locally as “the father of piping in Central Illinois,” and the band grew from those early lessons into a community and competition pipe band. Over the years, it promoted Highland piping and drumming across central Illinois through tuition, parades, public events and Highland games.
Today, Celtic Cross Pipes and Drums continues as a Grade 5 pipe band, welcoming new pipers and drummers while keeping Scottish music active in the Peoria area.
