About the Band
Grand Traverse Pipes & Drums is based in Traverse City, Michigan, USA, and was founded in 1974 to preserve and promote Scottish Gaelic arts and pipe band traditions. The band has been active across Northern Michigan for decades, performing at parades, festivals, ceremonies and community events.
The band is especially associated with the National Cherry Festival in Traverse City and has appeared in hundreds of regional parades and festivals. It has also competed in the Midwest pipe band scene, including regular appearances at the U.S. Open Pipe Band Championship, where it achieved strong results including a first-place drum section in 2014.
Today, Grand Traverse Pipes & Drums continues to represent Northern Michigan through public performance, competition and cultural outreach, maintaining a pipe band tradition that marked its 50th anniversary in 2024.
