About the Band

City of Limerick Pipe Band is based in Limerick City, Ireland, and was founded in 1949 in a field behind Mount Saint Laurence Cemetery. Its earliest members came from nearby bands, including Curragower Pipe Band, and the band was originally known simply as The Limerick Pipe Band.

Over the decades, the band became one of Ireland’s leading pipe bands, performing at local events, civic occasions, parades and competitions. It has maintained a strong role in Limerick’s cultural life and continues to practise at Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary School in Janesboro.

In 2024, the band celebrated its 75th anniversary and travelled to Savannah, Georgia, for the city’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations. It has also represented Limerick at international events such as the Festival Interceltique de Lorient in France. Today, City of Limerick Pipe Band continues to promote piping and drumming through performance, competition and community involvement.
