About the Band

Inter Scaldis Pipes & Drums is based in Vlissingen, Zeeland, in the Netherlands. The band was founded in 1984 as a “living monument” to the Scottish soldiers who helped liberate Zeeland in November 1944, particularly the King’s Own Scottish Borderers, who played an important role in the liberation of Vlissingen.

The band’s Scottish connection is reflected in its choice of Leslie tartan, worn in honour of the regiment and its links to the area’s wartime history. Over the years, Inter Scaldis has maintained close ties with remembrance events, veterans and Scottish cultural activity in the Netherlands and abroad.

Inter Scaldis has also competed successfully in mainland European pipe band contests, including winning Grade 4 at the Continental Championships in 2018 and gaining success at the Belgian Open Bagpipes Championship.

Today, Inter Scaldis continues to combine remembrance, performance and competition, representing Zeeland’s connection with Scottish military history through piping and drumming.
