About the Band
Kirkcudbright & District Pipe Band is based in Kirkcudbright, Dumfries and Galloway, in south-west Scotland. The band has been in existence since 1927 and was founded by local saddler William Imlay.
For almost a century, the band has played an important role in local community life, performing at civic events, gala days, summer festivities and traditional Scottish nights in Kirkcudbright’s Harbour Square. It has also maintained a competition presence and is listed as a Grade 4A band from Dumfries and Galloway.
Teaching has always been a major part of the band’s purpose, with the organisation encouraging young musicians and welcoming learners of all ages on pipes and drums. Today, Kirkcudbright & District Pipe Band continues to promote piping and drumming through tuition, competition and community performance, carrying forward a local tradition that is now close to 100 years old.
