About the Band

Sgoil Lionacleit Pipe Band is based at Sgoil Lionacleit on Benbecula in the Western Isles, drawing young pipers and drummers from across Uist, Benbecula and surrounding island communities. The band gives pupils access to Highland piping and drumming tuition, performance opportunities and competition experience.

The band has represented the Outer Hebrides at Scottish schools and RSPBA events, including the Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships and major championships on the mainland. In 2017, it placed seventh at the European Pipe Band Championships in Forres, and in 2018 the band travelled to New York to take part in Tartan Week, representing the Hebrides internationally.

Recent listings show Sgoil Lionacleit continuing to compete, including Novice Juvenile B activity at the World Pipe Band Championships. Today, the band remains an important youth music project for the Western Isles, helping keep piping and drumming strong in one of Scotland’s most musical island communities.
