About the Band

The Essern Highlanders Pipe Band is based in Essern, part of Diepenau in Lower Saxony, Germany. The band has existed as a registered association since 2017 and draws members from across the Nienburg district, Schaumburg region and Minden-Lübbecke area.

The band was formed to promote Scottish pipe band music in Germany, combining Highland bagpipes, pipe band drumming and traditional-style uniforms. Its activities include public performances, concerts, whisky tastings, open rehearsals and cultural events.

Essern Highlanders is also involved in competition and development work. It has taken part in German pipe band events and is linked with the wider Highland Owls of Alba cooperation project, which brings together players from Essern, Alba Pipe Band and Owl Town Pipe & Drum Band to strengthen competition opportunities.

Today, The Essern Highlanders continues to support piping and drumming in northern Germany through performance, teaching, cooperation and competition.
