About the Band

The Wine Street Pipe Band is a German pipe band based on the Deutsche Weinstraße in Rhineland-Palatinate, around the Bad Dürkheim / Carlsberg-Hertlingshausen area. The band was founded on 27 September 2020 by musician Martina Berlinger, beginning with a group of her own students who shared an interest in Scottish music and the Great Highland Bagpipe.

Since then, Wine Street has developed into a small but active pipes and drums group, bringing traditional Scottish music to weddings, private events, company functions, town festivals, and local celebrations across the Palatinate wine region. Its website describes the band as a mix of active pipers and newer pipe learners, supported by bass and snare drum.

The band has also started to build a competition profile, with its first contest appearance listed at the Highland Gathering in Peine in May 2025, followed by participation at the Angelbachtal Highland Games in July 2025. Recent German competition records also show Wine Street competing in Grade 5.

Still a young band, Wine Street Pipe Band is best understood as a growing Palatinate pipe band: fresh reeds, local wine-country roots, and enough Highland skirl to make the Riesling tremble.
