About the Band

Commonwealth Pipes & Drums is based in Melrose, Massachusetts, near Boston. The organisation describes its roots as stretching back to 1921, with the present band formally re-established in 2017. It was formerly known as Kevin Barry Pipes and Drums before adopting the Commonwealth name.

The band competes under the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association and has built a strong Grade 3 profile, taking part in contests across the East Coast and Canada. Recent achievements include winning Grade 3 at the North American Pipe Band Championships and first place at the Celtic Classic in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Today, Commonwealth Pipes & Drums continues as a competitive and community-focused band, representing the Boston area through performance, competition and player development, with international appearances including the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow.
