About the Band
Stockholm Pipe Band is based in Stockholm, Sweden, and traces its roots to the Swedish piping scene of the late 1960s and 1970s. The earliest linked group was The Thistle Pipe Band, founded by Per Colliander in 1968. In 1976, Stockholm Caledonian Pipe Band was formed, and in the 1980s another related group, The Pipes and Drums of the 1st Royal Engineers, also became active.
In 1999, remaining members of Stockholm Caledonian joined with the 1st Royal Engineers band, helping create the organisation that later became Stockholm Pipe Band. The current name was adopted in 2014.
The band has competed in Scandinavia, mainland Europe and Scotland, including appearances at the World Pipe Band Championships. Recent records show Stockholm Pipe Band competing in Grade 3B at the Worlds. Today, it continues to represent Swedish piping and drumming through competition, performance and cultural events in Stockholm and abroad.
