About the Band
KZN Callies Pipe Band appears to be a recent collaborative competition banner in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
In 2025, Durban Caledonian Society Pipe Band’s Grade 4 band collaborated with Pietermaritzburg Pipe Band under the KZN Callies name, making its debut at the South Coast Highland Gathering.
The project connects two local “Callies” traditions: Durban Caledonian Society Pipe Band and Pietermaritzburg Caledonian Pipe Band.
Pietermaritzburg Caledonian Society Pipe Band itself dates back to 1918, when it was started as a living memorial to those who fell in the First World War.
So, KZN Callies is new, but it carries older KwaZulu-Natal piping roots.
