About the Band
Mohawk Valley Frasers Pipe Band is based in Rome, New York, and was founded in 1973 by four pipers from the western Mohawk Valley: Dr. William Forbes, Jim Clough, Tom Carl and Frank Dugan Jr. The band was originally called the 78th Fraser’s Highlanders, reflecting the historic Highland regiment once connected with Fort Stanwix in Rome.
The band grew through the 1970s and became known for both its distinctive historical uniform and its competition success. Over time it adopted the name Mohawk Valley Frasers, while keeping the Fraser Highlanders connection as part of its identity.
Today, the Frasers are regarded as one of Central New York’s leading pipe bands, drawing members from across the region between Rochester and Little Falls. The organisation supports competition, public performance and teaching, with both senior and development activity helping sustain piping and drumming in the Mohawk Valley.
