About the Band

Catamount Pipe Band is based in Montpelier, Vermont, USA. The band was formed in 1998 by Iain MacHarg, along with Cheryl and Cyrus McQueen, with the aim of creating a Vermont pipe band capable of serious competition. Its first members came from the St. Andrew’s Society of Vermont Pipe Band, and early practices were held in member Bruce Watson’s garage.

The band grew into one of Northern New England’s leading pipe bands, drawing players from Vermont and neighbouring states. It has competed across the region and internationally, including trips to the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow.

Today, Catamount Pipe Band continues as an intergenerational organisation promoting Celtic music, piping and drumming through competition, performance, teaching and community events.
