About the Band

Highland Dragon Pipe Band is based in Ostwestfalen-Lippe, Germany, with origins in Oerlinghausen near Paderborn. The band began in spring 2002, when a group of Highland pipe enthusiasts met to play together and were asked to take part in a local parade. After discussion over a name, Highland Dragon Pipe Band was chosen, with a red Celtic dragon becoming the band’s symbol.

Early members included Anke, Pierrette, Thomas, Gerry, Maik and Rüdiger, with Maik taking on the role of Pipe Major. The band chose Black Stewart as its tartan and initially practised in Oerlinghausen before moving to facilities at Rochdale Barracks in Bielefeld.

Today, Highland Dragon performs traditional Scottish pipe band music in full Highland dress and remains active in concerts, parades, cultural events and German Highland gatherings, helping promote Scottish piping and drumming in mainland Europe.
