About the Band

Benoni Pipe Band is based in Benoni, Gauteng, South Africa, and is closely associated with Benoni High School’s long-running pipe band tradition. The band was established in 1976 with a small group of learners and developed into one of South Africa’s most successful school pipe band programmes.

It achieved early success at the Royal Scottish Gathering in 1979, then built a strong competition record through the 1980s and 1990s, including wins in band, drum corps and drum major events. The band became known for developing young pipers and drummers and for maintaining a high standard in South African school pipe band competition.

A major milestone came in 2009, when Benoni High School Pipe Band won at the World Pipe Band Championships in Scotland, a landmark achievement for South African pipe banding. Today, Benoni Pipe Band continues to represent the Benoni area through teaching, performance and competition.
