About the Band

Mount Arrowsmith Pipe Band is based in Parksville, British Columbia, and has performed across the Oceanside communities of Vancouver Island since 1975. The band was formed to preserve, promote and teach Gaelic culture through pipe band music, and took its name from the support given by the Parksville Royal Canadian Legion, Mount Arrowsmith Branch 49. Mark Clark was the first Pipe Major.

After early activity in the 1970s, the band became inactive from late 1977 until 1984, when it was reorganised by Garth Pritchard and Tom MacPherson, again with support from the Parksville Legion. It later grew under Pipe Major Mel Wilson, who led the band from 2001 to 2014.

Today, Mount Arrowsmith is mainly a community “street band”, performing at parades, Remembrance Day, Canada Day, Burns Suppers and local events. It continues to support piping, drumming, education and community involvement on Vancouver Island.
