Hawthorn Pipe Band was established in 1914 in Hawthorn, Melbourne, originally as the Hawthorn Highland Pipe Band. Its first meetings were held at Glenferrie Hotel, where local pipers and drummers gathered to form a band dedicated to Scottish pipe band music in Australia

Over more than a century, Hawthorn has become one of Australia’s leading competitive pipe bands, performing across Australia and overseas. The band is listed by Pipe Bands Victoria as Grade 1 and wears the RJK Semple OAM BEM Hawthorn tartan.

In recent years Hawthorn has been one of Australia’s strongest bands, described on its own site as current Victorian and Australian champions. A proper Melbourne pipe-band warhorse, still kicking doors open with chanters and side drums.
