About the Band

Presbyterian Ladies’ College Pipes & Drums usually refers to the PLC Perth Pipe Band, based at Presbyterian Ladies’ College in Peppermint Grove, Western Australia. The band has been part of the school’s culture since its first performance at the 1981 Speech Night. The idea was introduced in the late 1970s by Musical Director Eric Page, who wanted a group that reflected both musical excellence and school spirit.

The band is one of only a small number of all-female school pipe bands in Australia, and it reflects PLC’s Scottish heritage through piping, drumming, uniform and ceremonial performance. It performs at school occasions, community events and pipe band activities, giving students a distinctive musical pathway within the wider school music programme.

Today, PLC Pipes & Drums continues to provide tuition and performance opportunities for students, with a focus on confidence, discipline and ensemble playing. A school band with proper presence, then: blazers, drones, side drums, and not a weak upbeat to be found.
