City of Sails Pipe Band is an Auckland, New Zealand pipe band formed in 1992. In its early days, the band borrowed surplus equipment from other bands while members and supporters raised funds for uniforms and instruments through a fairly heroic list of jobs, including marshalling events, warehouse stock-takes and packaging mail. Proper “we’ll build this thing ourselves” energy.

The band is a community and teaching organisation, promoting Scottish piping and drumming in Auckland while performing at public events, parades and community occasions. Public listings describe City of Sails as an Auckland community pipe band made up of musicians playing Scottish bagpipes and drums.

Competitively, City of Sails has been active in the Royal New Zealand Pipe Bands’ Association scene and won the 2014 New Zealand Grade 4A Championship. The band continues to teach, perform and recruit new players, keeping Auckland’s pipe band scene alive.
