About the Band

Falkirk Schools Pipe Band is a youth pipe band made up of pupils from across Falkirk Council schools. It sits within Falkirk’s Instrumental Music Service and offers free tuition, with senior, development and beginner groups helping young pipers and drummers progress from first lessons into full band playing.

The modern band was set up around 2023, with support from the Scottish Schools Pipes and Drums Trust. SSPDT records show support for developing a Falkirk Schools Pipe Band, including the loan of bagpipes, matched funding for drumming tuition from January 2020, and a further loan of pipes in November 2022.

Despite being relatively new, the band has already made a strong impression. Falkirk Council reported in 2025 that the band had won seven trophies across competitions, including awards at Cowal Highland Gathering and Peebles for piping, marching and discipline. Around 50 members also represented Falkirk schools at the Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships.

In 2025, Falkirk Schools Pipe Band was selected to represent Scotland at New York’s Tartan Day Parade, a major milestone for a young schools band.
