About the Band

Govan Community Pipe Band, formally linked with Govan Schools & Community Pipe Band, is a Glasgow pipe band project founded in 2013 to bring piping and drumming opportunities to the Govan area. Companies House records show the organisation was incorporated on 5 April 2013, originally as The Govan Schools Piping Association, later becoming The Govan Schools Pipes & Drums Association, and then Govan Schools & Community Pipe Band Ltd.

Its charitable purpose is strongly community-focused: to promote Highland bagpipe and drum music in Govan, provide lessons for local schoolchildren at all levels, and supply instruments so pupils can learn and practise. Early Glasgow Council material described the project as aiming to create a Govan Community Pipe Band, with partners including Greater Glasgow Police Scotland Pipe Band and the College of Piping, and support sought for pipes, drum pads, sticks, drums and uniforms.

The band has since grown from a schools initiative into a visible community band, performing locally and appearing at major piping events. Public profiles list it as newly promoted to Grade 3B, under Pipe Major Thomas Rankine and Lead Drummer Stephen Burns.
