About the Band

Granite City Pipe Band, more commonly listed as Granite City Pipes & Drums, is based in Aberdeen, Scotland. The band was formed in October 2014 by a group of young pipers and drummers from the north-east, with the aim of developing Highland piping and pipe band drumming in and around Aberdeen.

The band is a registered Scottish charity, SC045675, and its stated purposes include providing piping and drumming tuition, performing in the community and in competition, and supporting youth development within Scotland’s pipe band tradition.

Granite City Pipes & Drums describes itself as a development band, with pipers, drummers and learners involved. Public material lists it as having around 33 members, with tuition available for bagpipes, side drum, tenor and bass drum.

Competitively, the band is active in the lower grades. Recent public profiles and footage show Granite City competing in Grade 4, including Grade 4B at the 2025 Garioch Pipe Band Championship, where the band was led by Pipe Major Hannah Mutch, wore Highland Granite tartan, and placed third overall.
