About the Band

Old Scotch Pipes & Drums is a Melbourne-based pipe band connected with the Old Scotch Collegians’ Association and Scotch College, Hawthorn. The band was formed in 2009 under Pipe Major Brian Symington, when former Scotch College students came together to revive their piping and drumming in a friendly band setting. Many of the original members are still involved, while the band has grown beyond its old-boy roots into a broader community of players.

The band is based at the Pipe House at Scotch College and practises during the week, with extra rehearsals during the competition season. It now fields Grade 3 and Grade 4A bands in Victoria, giving players a route into contesting while keeping the social and teaching side of the organisation alive.

Old Scotch Pipes & Drums performs at school, alumni and community events, while also competing on the Victorian pipe band circuit.
