About the Band

Scottish Borders Pipe Band was formed in 2010 to give players from across the Borders a way to compete together at a higher level while still supporting their own local town bands. It grew out of a merger involving Hawick and Stow pipe bands, with players also linked to Galashiels Ex-Service and Melrose & District.

The band made an immediate impact. In its debut 2011 season it competed in Grade 4A and won the World Pipe Band Championship, also taking the drumming prize. That early success was closely associated with bass drummer Alistair “Aggy” Glendinning, one of the driving figures behind the band’s creation.

Since then, Scottish Borders has steadily climbed the grades, collecting major championship results along the way. It was Grade 3B Scottish Champion in 2012 and again won the Scottish Championship in Grade 3B in 2018. More recently, after a strong 2025 season that included Scottish and British Championship wins, the band moved into Grade 3A.

The band remains proudly rooted in the Borders, performing locally while also travelling to European festivals and contests.
