Macánta Pipe Band is a modern competition pipe band based in Bedfordshire, England. The band was founded in late 2019 by Tony Doherty and brought together experienced pipers and drummers from across the UK. Its name, “Macánta”, is Gaelic for sincere or honest, reflecting the band’s aim to build a committed, ambitious and player-focused organisation.

Despite being a relatively new band, Macánta quickly made an impact on the competition scene. It developed a strong playing group with members who had previous national and international experience, and promoted itself as a Bedfordshire-based band performing on the wider UK and world stage.

The band has been associated with rapid competitive success, including claims of World Champion status in its early seasons, and continues to perform at competitions, public events, corporate engagements and celebrations. Today, Macánta remains one of the newer names in English pipe banding, with a focus on high standards, strong presentation and building a lasting competitive identity.
