About the Band

atae Pipe Band is a competition pipe band based in Leicester, England. The band was formed in 2022 with the aim of building a strong Midlands-based competing band, starting in Grade 4B and bringing together players of mixed experience, from young learners to seasoned competitors.

The band is led by Pipe Major Bryon Brotherton MBE, a former Pipe Major of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, with a leadership team including experienced army and civilian players. Ratae has focused on competition, youth development and growing piping and drumming in the Leicester area.

In recent years, the band has also promoted major fundraising concerts in Syston, including events featuring leading solo pipers and members of top bands such as Shotts & Dykehead Caledonia. Today, Ratae Pipe Band continues to develop as an active Grade 4 competition band, representing Leicester and the wider Midlands pipe band scene.
