About the Band

Royal Burgh of Annan Pipe Band is based in Annan, Dumfries and Galloway. It was formed in 2004 through the merger of two established local bands, Annan Ex-Service Club Pipe Band and MacLean Pipe Band, creating a single stronger band for the town.

Annan already had a long pipe band tradition, and Annan Ex-Service Club had existed for more than 80 years before the merger. During the 1980s, it reached the top of Grade 2 under Pipe Major Walter Cowan. Both predecessor bands were competing in Grade 3A before they joined forces.

Since formation, Royal Burgh of Annan has competed regularly on the major Scottish and UK circuit. A major recent highlight came in 2022 when the band won the Grade 2 title at the European Pipe Band Championships.

Today, the band continues to represent Annan through competition, public performance and local musical tradition, carrying forward the heritage of the town’s former bands under one united name.
