About the Band
MacIntosh Pipe Band is based in Larkspur, northern California, USA. The band was formed in the late 1980s, with its first competition taking place at Dixon in 1990. Its origins are linked to Prince Charles Pipe Band alum Janice Richey, who was encouraged by her instructor, Bill Merriman, to take on a teaching and leadership role.
The band wears the Ancient Hunting MacIntosh tartan and has operated as a community and competition pipe band within the Western United States Pipe Band Association’s Northern Branch. It provides opportunities for adults and developing players to learn and perform Highland piping and drumming.
Today, MacIntosh Pipe Band continues to represent northern California through competition, public performance and teaching, helping keep Scottish pipe band music active in the Bay Area.
