About the Band

Prince Charles Pipe Band is based in San Francisco, California and was founded in 1967 to teach young people Highland piping and drumming. Sponsored by the Caledonian Club of San Francisco, it has become one of the longest-running active youth piping and drumming instructional programmes on the West Coast.

The organisation has fielded bands across several levels, including Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 4, juvenile and youth bands. It has trained hundreds of pipers and drummers, with many alumni going on to play in leading bands in California and beyond. Its competitive record includes major success in North America, Scotland and Europe, including World Pipe Band Championship wins in 2000 and 2003.

Today, Prince Charles Pipe Band continues to combine youth development, competition and performance, fielding Grade 4 and Grade 5 juvenile bands under WUSPBA. In 2024, its Grade 4 band won the North American Championship. A proper West Coast talent machine: small chanters in, championship headaches for everyone else out.
