About the Band

Culter & District Pipe Band is based in Peterculter, Aberdeen, and forms part of the wider Culter Pipe Bands organisation. Its roots are closely linked to the 47th Culter Boys Brigade Pipe Band, which was formed in 1938 and played for many years at Boys’ Brigade parades and local events. By 1980, the BB band had joined the RSPBA, beginning a period of growth that led to the creation of the senior Culter & District band a few years later.

Culter & District Pipe Band itself was formed in 1983 and adopted an emblem showing Rob Roy with the Boys’ Brigade crest on his shield, reflecting both the village connection and the band’s BB roots.

Today, Culter Pipebands brings together Culter & District Pipe Band, currently listed as competing in Grade 4A, and 47th Culter Boys Brigade Pipe Band, competing in Novice Juvenile. The organisation is a registered Scottish charity and focuses on promoting piping and drumming, youth development, competition and local community performance.

The band has enjoyed notable competition success, including a strong 2019 season when Culter & District won Champion of Champions, while the wider Culter setup has also produced major youth success through the Boys Brigade bands.
