About the Band

North Stratton Pipe Band is a competitive Grade 2 pipe band based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The band was formed in 2015 by Pipe Major Hugh Armstrong and Drum Sergeant Michael Hansen, drawing together players from the Edmonton side of the former Grade 1 Alberta Caledonia Pipe Band and the Grade 3 Ben Nevis Pipe Band.

Despite being relatively young, North Stratton quickly built a strong international reputation. Within its first few years it had already travelled several times to the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, earning multiple top-ten Grade 2 finishes. The band’s own profile describes it as travelling annually to the Worlds.

The band’s recent rise has been particularly impressive. In 2024, North Stratton won Grade 2 at the European Championships, placed second at the World Championships, and its drum corps won the Grade 2 drumming title at the Worlds under Lead Drummer Jeremy White.

Led by Pipe Major Hugh Armstrong, North Stratton continues to represent Alberta on the international contest circuit, combining Canadian pipe band grit with serious Glasgow Green ambition.
