About the Band

Scots College Pipe Band is based at Scots College in Wellington, New Zealand. The band was founded in 1925 under Headmaster J. H. Murdoch, giving it a history almost as long as the school itself.

The band is an important part of the College’s identity, bringing together students from Junior, Middle and Senior Schools. Its structure is based on musical ability rather than age, which gives younger and older players the chance to learn and perform together.

Over the years, Scots College Pipe Band has performed at school events, public occasions, parades and competitions, helping maintain a strong piping and drumming tradition in Wellington. Today, it continues to develop young pipers and drummers through tuition, performance and competition, carrying forward a school pipe band tradition approaching its centenary.
