About the Band

Cottown Pipe Band is based around Six Road Ends, near Bangor in County Down, Northern Ireland. Public historical information on the band’s early years is limited, but it is an active competition and community pipe band within the RSPBA Northern Ireland Branch scene. Recent listings describe the band as competing in Grade 4A, under the leadership of Pipe Major Colin McClelland and Drum Sergeant Alan Robinson.

The band has been involved in local tuition and player development, with earlier RSPBANI notices advertising free piping and drumming lessons at Ballygrainey Orange Hall, Road Ends, Bangor. This reflects the role many Northern Irish pipe bands play as local teaching hubs as well as performance groups.

Today, Cottown Pipe Band continues to perform at local parades, community events and pipe band competitions, representing the North Down area on the contest field.
