About the Band

Cullybackey Pipe Band is based in Cullybackey, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, and was formed in March 1919. The band has been described as an integral part of village life since its foundation, giving it more than a century of local piping history. It remains active in the Northern Ireland pipe band scene, performing locally and competing under the RSPBA Northern Ireland Branch.

The band has long represented the village’s musical and community identity, with older local material celebrating “the kilty boys” of Cullybackey and naming John McClean as an early leader figure. While detailed formal records are limited online, the band’s longevity places it among the established community pipe bands of County Antrim.

Today, Cullybackey Pipe Band continues to perform, compete and encourage new players. Recent activity includes piping and drumming workshops with pupils at Cullybackey College, showing the band’s ongoing role in teaching and community outreach.
